GEENIE
Chana Ginelle Ewing is the founder and CEO of GEENIE, a curated beauty marketplace that enables consumers to discover, shop and share indie beauty brands that embody their values. Since the brand’s official launch in late July 2020, Chana quickly emerged as one of the beauty industry’s leading voices at the forefront of intersectionality and diversity. Chana is a cultural entrepreneur who has long been obsessed with building an intersectional world. She has funneled this passion into her creative work, all of which has centered around multicultural and inclusive audiences. For nearly a decade, Chana led digital marketing campaigns for Emmy award-winning and Oscar-nominated documentaries for festival, broadcast and theatrical release. She is the author of the bestselling book An ABC of Equality (with illustrations by Paulina Morgan), which introduces complicated concepts like equality, identity and social justice to children. In the wake of today’s national reckoning on race, the book sold out and became a sought after tool for folx of all ages; subsequently, a second edition debuted to support the high demand. Chana also self-funded a subscription box company called GeenieBox, that featured books, products and experiences curated by different iconic Black womxn each month. This ultimately became the precursor to GEENIE. Through the subscription box experience, Chana recognized an opportunity within the broader retail space to launch a marketplace and community that empowers consumers to not simply shop their values, but also to purchase from independent brands and founders that mirror their beliefs. Shoppers understand how and where they spend their money can leave a lasting economic impact, and Chana is at the vanguard of providing both the impactful brands and educational resources for consumers to do just that.
